A Poem by Oscar Wilde 王尔德诗一首(周道模 译) Helas! To drift with every passion till my soul Is a stringed lute on which all winds can play Is it for this that I have given away Mine ancient wisdom, and austere control? Methinks my life is a twice-written scroll Scrawled over on some boyish holiday With idle songs for pipe and virelay, Which do but mar the secret of the whole. Surely there was a time I might have trod The sunlit height, and from life’s dissonance Struck one clear chord to reach the ears of God: Is that time dead? lo!with a little rod I did but touch the honey of romance – And must I lose a soul’s inheritance?

To risk William Arthur WardTo laugh is to risk appearing the foolTo weep is to risk appearing sentimental.To reach out to another is to risk involvementTo expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.To place your ideas, your dreams before the crowd is to risk their lossTo love is to risk not being loved in return,To live is to risk dyingTo try is to risk failureBut the risk must be taken, because the greater hazard in life is to risk nothingThe person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.He may avoid suffering and sorrowbut he simply cannot learn, feel, change or liveChained by his servitude he is a slave who has forfeited all freedom.Only a person who risks is free.The pessimist complains about the wind;The optimist expects it to change;And the realist adjusts the sails."Take a risk笑有犯傻的危险,流泪有过于感伤的危险爱上一个人有不能自拔的危险表达情感有自我暴露的危险在众人面前说自己的梦想,有被嘲笑的危险付出爱有没有回报的危险活着就有死的危险尝试就有失败的危险但是我们必须要冒险,因为更大的危险是不敢冒险那些一味安逸的人,同时也一事无成,一无所有,一无是处。 A Poem by Oscar Wilde王尔德诗一首(周道模 译) Helas! 唉!To drift with every passion till my soulIs a stringed lute on which all winds can play所有激情都随风而逝,直到我的灵魂变成了风儿弹拨的一弦鲁特琴,Is it for this that I have given awayMine ancient wisdom, and austere control? Methinks my life is a twice-written scrollScrawled over on some boyish holidayWith idle songs for pipe and virelay,Which do but mar the secret of the whole. Surely there was a time I might have trodThe sunlit height, and from life’s dissonanceStruck one clear chord to reach the ears of God:当然有一段时光我也许踩踏过阳光的高度,并且从生命的分裂引起一种清晰的共鸣,它抵达上帝的耳朵:Is that time dead? lo!with a little rodI did but touch the honey of romance –And must I lose a soul’s inheritance?

THE NIGHTINGALE AND THE ROSE

"She said that she would dance with me if I brought her red roses," cried the young Student, "but in all my garden there is no red rose。"

From her nest in the oak tree the Nightingale heard him, and she looked out through the leaves and wondered。

"No red rose in all my garden!" he cried, and his beautiful eyes filled with tears. "Ah, on what little things does happiness depend!

I have read all that the wise men have written, and all the secrets of philosophy are mine, yet for want (没有) of a red rose is my life made wretched。"

"Here at last is a true lover," said the Nightingale. "Night after night have I sung of him。

though I knew him not:night after night have I told his story to the stars and now I see him。

His hair is dark as the hyacinth(风信子)-- blossom,and his lips are red as the rose of his desire; but passion has made his face like pale ivory;

他的头发黑得像风信子一样开放,他的嘴唇红得像他渴望的玫瑰;

and sorrow has set her seal upon his brow。"
